The Riga Richard Wagner House was built in 1782 as the Riga City Theater. In the period between 1837 and 1839 when Richard Wagner was appointed chief conductor of the theater, it became a center of the cultural life of Riga.

THE WAGNER HOUSE

PATRONS

– Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Präsident der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Richard Wagner, the exceptional composer and conductor whose music has filled the world’s biggest concert halls and opera houses, has given us one of the brightest chapters in the history of German, Latvian and world culture. Although he spent only a short time in Riga, we can be proud that it was here that he was most productive and created a vast cultural legacy. Given the enormous personal and creative impact of Richard Wagner, I am happy that Riga Richard Wagner Society continues to work on the restoration of the beautiful Wagner’s House. It is a place of great historical and cultural value. After restoration, it should become an important international culture hub of Northern Europe. It will also become a Latvian cultural landmark and enrich our culture.

– Egils Levits

Former President of Latvia

Once you’ve been in the building and imagined how it could be enlivened and filled with music, it never lets you go. To bring this vision to life – that’s what I am passionately committed to. A unique building complex with music-historical significance will become a meeting place for young musicians from all over the world – it will be a success story.

– Eva Wagner-Pasquier

Granddaughter of Richard Wagner
